The Bats of Congress Avenue Bridge
Between March and October, there are about 1.5 million bats that emerge nightly from under the South Congress bridge. Bat watchers like to find a spot on or around the bridge to watch the spectacle which starts around 20 minutes before sundown. The nightly show lasts about 45 to 60 minutes and the bats fly out at 60-plus miles per hour and 2-mile high flight patterns, where they go on a feeding frenzy of Austin insects.
Congress Avenue Kayaks
For all the people that enjoy doing outdoor activities, you can rent out a kayak or paddle board and take a dip in Lady Bird Lake. This is a fun way to get a workout and view the downtown area from a different perspective. The address is Waller Creek Boathouse, 74 Trinity St, Austin, Texas 78701.
Graffiti Park at Castle Hills
A hidden gem in Austin is the Graffiti Park at Castle Hills. This outdoor graffiti park where people come and spray paint the walls is a must-see when you’re in town. The walls are the remains of a failed Castle Hill condo development. Now, it is used by Austinites as a place to show off their art skills. The ever-changing murals on these walls are going to be missed as they are planning to demolish this park soon. It is located in the middle of a neighborhood in downtown Austin and has caused many problems for neighbors. If you hurry, you might be able to see it. The address is 1100 Baylor St, Austin, TX 78703-4922.
